Phoebe Silag joined American Farmland Trust in December 2016 as the Special Assistant to the President and Communications Director. She is responsible for the organization's communications strategy and oversees the communications department. She also handles key administrative and management tasks for AFT President John Piotti.
Phoebe gained a facility for developing and implementing communications plans for complex, data-heavy research as Associate Director of Communications at the Brookings Institution's Metropolitan Policy Program and as Media Relations Director at the Economic Policy Institute. Prior to working at think tanks, she worked as Communications Director for Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas and in a wide range of roles on campaigns in her home state of Iowa.
She holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College.
