Celebrating Farmers Markets

American Farmland Trust raises awareness about the vital link between family farmers and our local food.

Every spring and summer, American Farmland Trust highlights the important role farmers markets play for family farmers and for consumers searching for the freshest local fruits and vegetables.

Across the country, family farmers struggle to make a living and keep their land. Development encroaches around them, threatening their land, their livelihood, and our fresh, local food.

Our annual Farmers Market Celebration raises awareness about the vital link between family farmers and our local food.

“The majority of our fresh fruits and vegetables are grown in the path of development. And, we are losing nearly an acre of farmland every minute. Farmers markets help keep farmers profitable and keep farmland in farming. Americans value local food, but there is no local food without local farms.” —Andrew McElwaine, Former President & CEO of AFT
