8th annual Ohio Farmland Preservation Summit
“Growing Our Economy Through Agriculture”
The nation’s largest single-state farmland preservation conference continues to grow. About 270 people came to the 8th Annual Ohio Farmland Preservation Summit on Nov. 1 to hear speakers from New York, Maine and Ohio discuss the theme of “Growing our Economy through Agriculture.”
AFT, an organizer and sponsor of the summit since its inception in 2000, continues to stress the role of farm viability in the farmland movement.
“Farmers know that the best way to preserve farmland is to make sure farming is profitable,” AFT Ohio Director Brian Williams said in introducing his New York counterpart, David Haight. The main speaker in the afternoon session, Haight showed how New York communities and organizations have promoted farm products and planned for agriculture.
