You Expect Them to Preserve Farmland!
Local elected officials have a tough job. They must balance many competing interests, especially when it comes to land use. They are more likely to make decisions that preserve farmland and promote smarter, more efficient growth, if they have the active and vocal support of constituents who believe in these goals and vote for candidates who share them.
So, make your voice heard. Contact your county and city officials. Bring the facts about farmland — from the section on Local Plans & Performance — to their attention. Ask them what they personally are doing to preserve farmland and about opportunities for you to support their efforts. Challenge those who are indifferent or support the status quo of sprawling, out-of-control development.
