AFT has a plan to Protect our environment

American Farmland Trust has launched a nationwide Agriculture & Environment Initiative to help farmers and ranchers play a major role in improving our environment while also expanding their sources of income and keeping them on their land. Our comprehensive plan is:

• Expanding conservation and environmentally responsible farming practices;
• Engaging agriculture to develop and participate in ecosystems services markets;
• Developing policies to advance conservation practices and provide a framework to support nutrient and carbon trading markets;
• Mobilizing supporters in key districts and states.

Why Agriculture & Environment?
While we pay billions to clean up and prevent environmental damage through technology, farms and ranches can provide valuable environmental services like clean water, healthy soil and carbon reduction at a fraction of the cost. Agriculture is the single largest user of land and water resources and must be part of any solutions to address our most pressing environmental challenges: climate change and water quality.
