Washington, D.C., January 13, 2010 — American Farmland Trust (AFT) will be able to further its mission to help farmers and ranchers protect their land, produce a healthier environment and build successful communities, through a partnership with Peeled Snacks launched today.

“What American Farmland Trust is doing is extremely powerful,” said Noha Waibsnaider, Peeled Snacks CEO and founder. “American Farmland Trust’s ‘No Farms, No Food ®’ message strongly resonates with our philosophy at Peeled Snacks.  As a company, we firmly believe in the importance of eating food that is as natural as possible, and growing it as close to home as possible.”

America’s farms provide an unparalleled abundance of fresh and healthy food. Many consumers do not realize that 91 percent of fruits and 78 percent of vegetables grown in the United States are grown near metro regions, where they are in the path of development. Every hour, the United States loses 125 acres of farm and ranchland. “Peeled Snacks is proud to announce this partnership in an effort to help stop this troubling trend,” added Waibsnaider.

“Purchasing and consuming locally and regionally sourced foods often gives consumers a chance to understand where their food is coming from and build stronger relationships between farmers and communities,” added Jane Kirchner, AFT’s Senior Director of Marketing and Communications. “And there is a vital link between local foods and the farms and farmland that supply those products. Whether providing healthy food, renewable energy or environmental services, agriculture is at the heart of solutions to the nation’s most pressing issues. That’s why it’s so important to raise awareness of the ‘No Farms, No Food®’ message through partnerships like this one.”

Peeled Snacks has created a special-edition snack pack, “The American Farms Sampler,” that includes the company’s delicious and popular dried apples and cherries, both grown on farms in North America. Peeled Snacks will donate 10 percent of the sales of this sampler to American Farmland Trust.

The “American Farms Sampler” is available for purchase on the Peeled Snacks website: www.peeledsnacks.com .

Peeled Snacks products are available nationwide in Starbucks, Hudson News, select Whole Foods Markets, and on Amazon.com .
