Washington, D.C., February 12, 2010 —Peeled Snacks has created a special-edition snack pack, “The American Farms Sampler,” that includes the company’s delicious and popular dried apples and cherries, both grown on farms in North America. Peeled Snacks will donate 10 percent of the sales of this sampler to support the work of American Farmland Trust (AFT).

As a special promotion for the month of February 2010, Peeled Snacks is offering free shipping on purchases of “The American Farms Sampler.” To obtain the shipping code go to www.farmland.org/snacks.

With the help of its members and corporate supporters, American Farmland Trust (AFT) works to help farmers and ranchers protect their land, produce a healthier environment and build successful communities. The national non-profit is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

“What American Farmland Trust is doing is extremely powerful,” said Noha Waibsnaider, Peeled Snacks CEO and founder. “American Farmland Trust’s ‘No Farms, No Food ®’ message strongly resonates with our philosophy at Peeled Snacks.  As a company, we firmly believe in the importance of eating food that is as natural as possible, and growing it as close to home as possible.”

Waibsnaider has also provided a guest post to AFT’s blog, telling how she became interested in helping AFT: “In developing our snacks, I had the privilege of working with farmers to find fruits that could be grown sustainably and offered a solid nutritional benefit. As our company grew, it became apparent to me that sourcing from American farms is becoming more difficult. So many U.S. farmers are being driven out by development and lower priced imports.’

“Several years ago, we couldn’t find any more dried apples from U.S. farms. It seemed inconceivable to me that we would have to source apples from abroad. What happened to Johnny Appleseed’s vision? Since then, we worked hard to find more American sources and increased our commitment to partner with them. That’s why I was so excited when I learned about American Farmland Trust.”
