It’s especially important as the federal government begins making recommendations and plans for the impacts of climate change on agriculture! USDA representatives, agriculture professionals and others will present federal adaptation efforts and plans, hold discussions, and solicit your ideas and input.

WHY: The impacts of changing weather and climate are projected to be significant for U.S. farmers and ranchers, indeed, impacts already are being seen across the country. In 2009, the U.S. Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) was directed to develop recommendations for adapting to climate change impacts. As part of this effort, USDA and CEQ will host a public meeting to present the science behind climate change and its impacts on agriculture, highlight potential adaptation, layout federal adaptation efforts and future plans, and solicit much needed input from agricultural producers. There will be panels of researchers presenting climate data, producers discussing actions they are taking, government representatives outlining their efforts, and farm group leaders giving their perspectives. There will time for public comment. A draft agenda and additional information about the meeting is available at: http://www.ncar.ucar.edu/resrel/projects/helping-agriculture-adapt-to-climate.php .
