| Washington, D.C., September 10, 2009—“All of us at American Farmland Trust congratulate Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) on being named Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee,” said Jon Scholl, President of American Farmland Trust, “And, we look forward to working with her.”
“Much important work was done in the 2008 Farm Bill to provide a new safety net program for farmers, to more fully recognize and reward the conservation and stewardship efforts of farmers, and to develop stronger food and nutrition and rural development programs,” continued Scholl. “At a time when our country faces many challenges, we will work with Senator Lincoln to continue to promote agriculture as the solution to these challenges, and to help agriculture remain competitive and economically viable in a global economy.”
“We also deeply appreciate the service of Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) as chairman of the committee and wish him all the best as he moves to chair the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, said Scholl.”
