Arthur Aleshire of Hannaford Brothers Named to AFT Board of Directors
Washington, D.C., October 23, 2009—The Board of Directors of American Farmland Trust (AFT) has unanimously elected Arthur Aleshire of Maine to serve a three-year term
as director.
Aleshire is Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for grocery chain Hannaford Brothers Co., where he has worked at the nexus of food, business and the environment for over two decades. Under Aleshire’s leadership, Hannaford Brothers has become a standard-bearer for environmental stewardship among food stores. In an effort to promote and develop solutions to global warming, Aleshire’s team designed and built the first-ever Platinum LEED certified grocery store on the planet. This industry first is one of many achievements that has earned Hannaford Brothers the 2009 Climate Champion Award from Clean Air-Cool Planet. Hannaford Brothers’ stores make an effort to source local, sustainably-produced and organic products.
Aleshire has proven himself as a strategic thinker and innovator in promoting corporate responsibility. In his roles on the Hannaford Executive Committee and the Delhaize Group Corporate Responsibility Steering Committee, he has contributed to making Hannaford Brothers Company an important member of the New York and New England communities where their stores are located. Each year, Hannaford Brothers donates $4 million to community health programs and programs dedicated to families and children.
Aleshire has traveled widely and is the co-founder of the Museum of African Tribal Culture in Portland, Maine. He serves on the advisory board of MAP International, and is the father of Abigail, the joy of his life.

Elizabeth Clagett Beck Named to American Farmland Trust Board of Directors
Washington, D.C., October 23, 2009—The Board of Directors of American Farmland Trust (AFT) has unanimously elected Elizabeth Clagett Beck of Washington, D.C., to serve a three-year term as director.
In 2005, Beck retired from her position as Director of Foreign Markets at Fidelity Management and Research Company, a subsidiary of Fidelity Investments. Since then, she has generously devoted her time to the community, providing four not-for-profit organizations with her expertise in strategic planning, fundraising, grant programs, development, and financial and endowment management. Prior to her appointment as an AFT director, Beck had been a member of AFT’s President’s Council since 2003 and supported numerous AFT events in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Beck has demonstrated her commitment to protecting farms and farmland in 10 years on the Board of Directors for Hancock’s Resolution Foundation, a local historic farmland preservation project. She also serves on the National Capital Campaign and Committee of Visitors at Goucher College, her alma mater, and on the Smithsonian Women’s Committee, where she helps raise funds for Smithsonian museums and research projects. Beck is also a member of Washington, D.C.’s Cosmos Club, serving as secretary of its House Committee, and the Sulgrave Club, for whom she sits on the Finance and Audit Committee. She has previously served on the Board of Directors and Executive Operation Committee of the Boston Lyric Opera, while co-chairing its Development Committee.

Sandra Frazier Named to American Farmland Trust Board of Directors
Washington, D.C., October 23, 2009—The Board of Directors of American Farmland Trust (AFT) has unanimously elected Sandra Frazier of Louisville, KY, to serve a three-year term
as director.
Sandra Frazier has nearly 20 years experience in public relations and community relations/investment experience in both corporate and agency settings. In 2005, she founded Tandem Public Relations, a small firm focusing on public relations, communications and branding practices.
Prior to founding her own business, Frazier was the public relations manager for
Doe Anderson, one of the oldest advertising agencies in the country; and worked with State Street Bank and FleetBoston Financial in corporate communications, marketing and investor relations.
Frazier holds a master’s degree in mass communication and public relations from Boston University College of Communication, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Hollins College.
A native of Louisville, Frazier also serves as a director to the Brown-Foreman Corporation and Commonwealth Bank and Trust Company. She is currently co-chairing the Louisville Zoo’s Glacier Run Capital Campaign and the capital campaign for
21st Century Parks. Active in numerous civic causes, Frazier serves on the
Hollins College Board of Trustees, the Kentucky Center Endowment Board, and the boards of The Louisville Zoo, 21st Century Parks, and the Downtown Development Corporation. She is a past participant in the year-long Rockefeller Foundation’s
Philanthropy Workshop.

Former Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Dennis C Wolff Named to AFT Board of Directors
Washington, D.C., October 23, 2009—The Board of Directors of American Farmland Trust (AFT) has unanimously elected Dennis C (Denny) Wolff to serve a three-year term as director.
In his capacity as head of Pennsylvania’s Department of Agriculture, Wolff contributed top-level management to a statewide strategic plan for the agriculture industry, overseeing
15 bureaus, 1,100 employees and a budget of over $200 million. Under Wolff’s leadership, the Dept. of Agriculture created programs offering farmers benefits for adopting conservation best practices, and made $100 million available for farmland protection. Wolff implemented programs providing farmers with technical, financial and innovative support, and encouraged Pennsylvania shoppers to purchase Pennsylvania-produced food and agricultural goods.
In addition to his experience serving the citizens of Pennsylvania, Wolff is a Master Farmer who has owned Pen-Col Farms since 1970. Pen-Col Farms is an industry leader in the export of fresh and frozen bovine embryos, and Wolff has partnered with ABS Global to promote and market dairy genetics internationally.
Wolff has been an important member of his community, founding the Nicholas Wolff Foundation, Inc./Camp Victory, which serves 1,200 chronically ill and handicapped children every summer. He is a Trustee of The Pennsylvania State University, and has served as a member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Board of Overseers. Wolff contributes to the World Trade Organization’s Agriculture Technical Committee, and has served on the USDA/Farm Service Agency State Committee, and is the Northeast Association of State Departments of Agriculture Past President. He is a published author and sought-after speaker, and has earned several distinguished awards, including the Pennsylvania Association of Township Supervisors’ Founders Award, an Honorary Future Farmers of America American Farmer Degree and the Leadership Central Penn Award.
