Nancy Hirshberg of Stonyfield Farm
Named to American Farmland Trust Board

Washington, DC , July 25, 2008—The Board of Directors of American Farmland Trust (AFT) has unanimously elected Nancy Hirshberg of New Hampshire to serve a three-year term as director.

Hirshberg is Vice President of Natural Resources for yogurt maker Stonyfield Farm where she has worked at the nexus of food, business and the environment for nearly two decades. She has lead Stonyfield’s efforts to improve their environmental performance and reduce their ecological footprint and spearheaded their organic program, working with growers to convert to organic practices in the production of milk, sweeteners and fruit.

Stonyfield Farm is recognized globally as a business environmental leader. Under Nancy Hirshberg’s management, the company has received prestigious awards including the Green Cross Millenium Award for Corporate Environmental Leadership; the President’s Council on Sustainable
Development National Award for Sustainability; and the Green Power Leadership award from the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.

Hirshberg has served on the Board of Directors of the Organic Trade Association (OTA) and acted as Vice President and chair of OTA’s marketing committee. She has served as a consultant on environmental and organic issues for a wide range of businesses including Seventh Generation, Hewlett Packard and myorganic.com. She is a highly sought after speaker on business and the environment in the United States and abroad.
