Art by Clarence KingClarence H. King

Clarence King recently began focusing his work on landscape and still life oil paintings. His landscape works emphasize the formal and emotional potential of each scene, which eloquently highlight the evocative possibilities of the ever-changing seasons and weather. Focusing on specific sites in upstate New York and southern Vermont, King’s landscapes demonstrate a command of light and texture that offer a sense of serenity to the viewer. The still life paintings are grounded in the fundamental elements of the genre, and depict a few objects arranged on a table through the rendering of form, light, shadow, and reflection. In his still life paintings, common objects are elevated from the mundane by intense scrutiny and careful composition. King received both his B.A. and M.A. in fine art from the State University of New York at Albany, and his works have been displayed in exhibits since the late 1970s.
